Card foiling & negative foiling tutorial ~ 2 cards

Card foiling is double the fun by using negative foiling for a second card.  Today, on the Unity blog, I am sharing two cards using toner card fronts with foil and a laminator.  I go an extra step to show a way to use the negative of the first foiling plus added double foiling.

Sentiments:
Wishing you beautiful things.
A mother's love is measured in timeless moments.

Making a set of foiled cards is easier using the negative of the first foiling pass.  An added bonus is double foiling.  Here is a look at how it is done.

Here is the moth toner card front with the first foiling pass using a gold shattered glass foil sheet.

Helpful tips:

Here are helpful tips for making this set of foiled cards.  To begin, pre-trim or die-cut the toner card fronts and the black toner sheet to desired sizes.  Also, stamp, color and prepare sentiment tags for each of the cards.  Next, preheat your laminator.  Then, trim one gold foil sheet and one purple foil sheet a little larger than the panels that you are foiling on.  And, have a carrier sheet ready, like a smooth folded piece of parchment paper.  Next, sandwich the toner card front face up and then the gold foil sheet pretty side up between the parchment paper.  Then, run this sandwich through the hot laminator and then gently remove the gold foil.  Next, repeat the process but use a black toner sheet plus the negative of the gold.  You should get a gold background with the moths in black.  If you want the moths another color, foil once more using purple or another color.  Finally, assemble the cards, to finish.

Here is a second card made after using the negative of the first moth foiled sheet along with an added third foiling pass using purple foil.

I made a quick video tutorial showing the process for this project.

4 Cards ~ Monochromatic stamping ~ flowers & vellum

Monochromatic stamping makes for easy card making.  Today, on the Unity blog, I am sharing four coordinating Mother's Day cards using stamping, ink, vellum and cardstock.  But, almost any stamp themes will work.

Sentiment:  Happy Mother's Day

Making a set of simple cards is easy using monochromatic stamping and changing out the background colors for the same card layout.

Helpful tips:

Here are helpful tips for making these coordinating cards using monochromatic stamping.  To begin, pre-cut and stamp 4 sentiment panels onto vellum or cardstock.  If preferred, add a white cardstock piece behind the vellum cuts.  Next, using a stamp positioning tool, stamp the background onto 4 different color cardstock panels using the coordinating ink color for each.  A similar look can be achieved by using watermark ink onto color cardstock.  Then, trim or die-cut the background panels to fit over the card base.  Finally, layer and assemble each card with the same lace trim and embellishments.

This is another look at the set.

 Supplies:
Also, flat and foam double-sided tape, My Creative Time rectangle frame die layers, My Favorite Things premium dye ink pads in caribbean sea, grape jelly, poppin' pink & lemon drop and cardstock in grapesicle, cotton candy, summer splash & lemon chiffon; Papertrey Ink vellum cardstock, StazOn black ink pad, gold glitter paper, Gina K. Designs connect glue, lace, original Misti, Fiskars paper trimmer.

Family love chair card ~ clean and simple with Copics

Today, I am sharing another card using the fun home and family stamps in the May 2020 Unity kit of the month.  I love the chair and pillows included with the family sentiments.

Sentiment:  Family.  I love our family and I love you.

This card was made using teal and gray colors.  I used the comfy chair and throw pillows.  Plus, I added one of the sentiments to a pillow by cutting the stamp and then stamping shorter word sections.  The family sentiment flag was hand-trimmed.  For color, Copics were used in layers for a soft look.  And the background is a piece of dry embossing, leftover from another project.  Finally, I fussy cut the pieces and layered it all to finish.

I kept this card clean and simple CAS style.  This could easily be made for other occasions like house warming or birthday just by changing out the sentiments.

Here is another look.

Supplies:  Unity Stamp Company Beginning of Everything {May 2020 Kit of The Month}; MFT A2 dies, paper trimmer, double-sided flat and foam tape, Copic markers 0, W1, W3, W5, C1, BG32, BG10, B0000, B01, B14.

Metallix gel pearl stencil card background + Zig watercolor..

For Technique Time at Unity, I am showing one way to make a pearl stencil card background.  Also, this incorporates a bit of watercolor with stamping.

Sentiment:  Happy pregnancy.

This is a pregnancy themed card with pickles and a pearl stencil card background.  I also use stamping and watercolor.

Here are helpful tips for creating this card.  To begin, I pre-cut an oval frame from patterned paper.  Next, I applied metallix gel to make a pearl stencil card background.  Once that dried, the stencil panel was die-cut with added waxed paper.  Then, I stamped and added watercolor to the pickle jar.  Finally, to finish, everything was layered onto the card base and assembled.

I made a quick video tutorial showing the process for this project.

Refreshing distress marker color ~ Watercolor Wednesday

For Watercolor Wednesday on the Unity blog, I am sharing a way to extend the life of distress markers for use with watercolor.

Sentiment:  It is the smallest things that take up the most room in your heart.

For this card, I stamped onto watercolor paper and then die-cut the panel.  My distress markers were not as juicy as they once were and no longer blend easily.  So, I applied color to the craft mat along with water to create water colors.  This is one way to extend the life of watercolor markers.

The full article and tutorial are up on the Unity blog.
I also made a quick video tutorial showing the process for this project.
