Card foiling & negative foiling tutorial ~ 2 cards

 Card foiling is double the fun by using negative foiling for a second card.  Today, on the Unity blog, I am sharing two cards using toner card fronts with foil and a laminator.  I go an extra step to show a way to use the negative of the first foiling plus added double foiling.

Making a set of foiled cards is easier using the negative of the first foiling pass.  An added bonus is double foiling.  Here is a look at how it is done.

Here is the moth toner card front with the first foiling pass using a gold shattered glass foil sheet.

Helpful tips:

Here are helpful tips for making this set of foiled cards.  To begin, pre-trim or die-cut the toner card fronts and the black toner sheet to desired sizes.  Also, stamp, color and prepare sentiment tags for each of the cards.  Next, preheat your laminator.  Then, trim one gold foil sheet and one purple foil sheet a little larger than the panels that you are foiling on.  And, have a carrier sheet ready, like a smooth folded piece of parchment paper.  Next, sandwich the toner card front face up and then the gold foil sheet pretty side up between the parchment paper.  Then, run this sandwich through the hot laminator and then gently remove the gold foil.  Next, repeat the process but use a black toner sheet plus the negative of the gold.  You should get a gold background with the moths in black.  If you want the moths another color, foil once more using purple or another color.  Finally, assemble the cards, to finish.

Here is a second card made after using the negative of the first moth foiled sheet along with an added third foiling pass using purple foil.

Toner Foiling ~ How to use leftovers for negative foiling ~ 2 cards

 Hello.  For Technique Time at Unity, I show a way to use leftover foil pieces in this negative foiling technique.  For today's example, I am using Deco Foil toner card fronts which include toner images.  And then, I added foil using a laminator.

With this negative foiling background technique, you get two foiled cards with one piece of deco foil.  And if you also use blank toner sheets, more colors can be added to the same toner card front.  In these cards, I added cute gnome stamping.

Helpful tips:

Here are helpful tips for negative foiling.  To begin, use a toner card front or an otherwise prepared panel for foiling.  Also, preheat a laminator and have a carrier sheet (parchment paper) ready.  Then, pre-trim foil pieces to cover the foil area.  Next, sandwich the foil piece over the toner card front inside of the carrier sheet.  Then, run this through the preheated hot laminator.  Next, gently peel away the first foil sheet to reveal the shiny foiled image.  You will have a sheet of leftover foil, I call the negative.  

For the negative foiling steps, trim a blank deco foil toner sheet panel to match your foil area.  Next, sandwich the negative foil over the toner sheet.  Then, run that through a hot pre-heated laminator.  Next, carefully peel away the "clear" film top layer where the foil used to be.  You will see that the foiling was transferred to the toner sheet.  This is ready to trim to fit your project.  OR, you can go one step further and add another foil color over that same foil sheet, run through a laminator to get a two-toned foiling result.

Foiling 4 Holiday Cards Deco Foil Toner Card Fronts ~ Tutorial

 Hi there.  For today, I am sharing four different Christmas and holiday cards using the new co-branded Deco Foil / Unity toner card fronts along with stamping.  This was a joy to do.  The toner card fronts work perfectly with laminator foiling.

This is the set of cards, all together.  I used four different colors of Deco Foil sheets for them.

Sentiment:  Warm hugs.

This gold ornament card was made using gold deco foil along with Copic markers.  I suggest adding color first and then add foil.  This helps to prevent damage to the marker nibs from the foiling.  All of the supplies are listed at the bottom of this post.  The florals give the look of garland.

Sentiment:  Peace on Earth

Here is a card using red foil with added Copics for the leaves accent.

Sentiment:  Merry & Bright

Here is a monochromatic card in blue foil and accented with a sentiment and a blue card base.

Sentiment:  Grateful for you this Christmas

And, finally, this green foil Christmas tree card shimmers beautifully.  I added the sentiment along with a green card base.

Foiling digital toner prints with Copic markers graduation card.

Hi there.  Today, I am sharing a graduation or encouragement card and video.  I used a digital stamp for this flower along with a pre-stamped and embossed sentiment from a red rubber stamp.

Sentiment:
Behind you all your memories, before you all your dreams, around you all who love you, within you all you need.

Here are helpful tips for creating this card.  To begin, either use printed digital stamps or hand-stamped images and a sentiment for use with Copic markers or your markers of choice.  Also, preheat a laminator.  Then, trim or die-cut the image panel and the glitter background panel, to fit your card base.  Next, stamp the sentiment.  Then, using clear embossing powder, heat emboss the sentiment to prepare it for foiling later.  Next, add color to the flower in layers for a variegated look.  I used Copics in a variety of colors listed below.  Next, sandwich the stamping with a piece of gold foil over the stamping, pretty side up, between a folded parchment paper carrier sheet.  Then, run it through a preheated laminator.  Gently peel away the foil.  Finally, layer everything and add twine to finish.

Negative foiling with 2 foils, toner sheets + a laminator.

Today, for Technique Time at Unity, I show a negative foiling technique in two colors with a toner sheet, a toner card front and a laminator.

The next time you think of beautiful things, don't forget to include yourself.

Here are helpful tips for negative foiling with toner sheets.  To begin, pre-heat a laminator on the highest setting.  Then, pre-stamp, color and fussy cut the cake or your focal image and the sentiment.  Next, trim a solid black toner sheet slightly larger than the negative foil sheet.  Then trim a gold foil sheet the same size as the negative sheet.  Next, place the negative foil sheet over the solid toner sheet, pretty side up.  Sandwich the two inside of a carrier sheet.  Then, run them through a pre-heated laminator.  Peel away the negative foil sheet.  Next, place the gold foil sheet over the negative toner sheet, pretty side up, sandwich the two between a carrier sheet and run through the laminator.  Gently peel the gold foil sheet away.  Trim the panel with the negative foiling where needed.  Finally, layer everything, add the cake piece and add the sentiment to finish the card.

Here is a photo of two cards made using one toner card front.  The left card is with the original blue foil sheet.  And the right card was made using the negative of the left card foiling sheet.  Plus with the added gold foiling you get the negative foiling.

Miss you girl & flowers card tutorial with foiling & Copics.

Hi there.  Today, I am sharing a sweet miss you card using laminator foiling with toner sheets and also Copic markers for color.

Sentiment:  I just miss you so very much.

Here are helpful tips for using deco foil with deco foil designer toner card fronts.  To begin, trim or die-cut the toner card front panel to fit your project.  Optional, add color of choice to the toner panel.  Next, trim a piece of foil to cover the toner panel.  Then, place the foil over the toner sheet, pretty side up.  Now, run them through a preheated laminator, pretty side up.  You can also use a carrier sheet or parchment paper to sandwich them.  Or, carefully run them through without it.  Once cooled, gently peel away the foil piece to reveal the shiny foiled background.  Next, stamp and color a top panel onto cardstock using Copic friendly ink or ink for use with your markers.  Then, trim or die-cut the girl panel to fit.  I added a die-cut edge trim to the background, leftover from a previous project.  But any accents will work.  Finally, layer everything and add adhesive gems to finish the card.

Tulips card tutorial ~ foiling and deco foil toner card fronts.

Hey there.  Today, I am sharing a Spring card featuring tulips, foiling and Unity toner card fronts.

Sentiment:  Well hello there.

For this Spring themed card, first, color in the toner card front background (optional).  Then, trim or die-cut to fit your project.  Next stamp the tulips and the sentiment onto vellum.  I colored the opposite side of the vellum tulip stamping using Copic markers.  Next, using a preheated laminator, place a piece of foil over the toner panel pretty side up.  Then, run it through the preheated laminator.  Once cooled, gently peel off the foil to reveal the foiled toner background panel.  Finally, layer everything and add cording, to finish.
