Watercolor ~ July 2023 Friends Of Unity Blog Hop

Welcome.  Thanks for visiting.  The July 2023 Friends Of Unity blog hop inspiration is "watercolor" themed.  I hope that you will join in on the fun.  Simply comment on each blog in the hop.  See the end of this post for your next stop.

For today's cards, I chose a sympathy theme, because I like having these types of cards on hand when it is needed.  Also, I think that soft watercolor adds a peaceful look.
The details for each card follow.  Be sure to check out the rest of the blogs in the hop for beautiful inspiration and ideas for card making.

Watercolor pencils, stamping & sketching ~ frog card tutorial

Stamping and sketching provide fun background scene building details.  Today, on the Unity blog, I am sharing a way to sketch a stage scene for this adorable stamped frog.  Intense watercolor pencils were used for color.

Sentiments:
You are pretty much amazing!
Hi there.  How are you?

For this card idea, I wanted the frog to have a stage.  So, I made two similar cards by stamping and sketching the stage background scene.  The stamped frog and sentiment are showcased right in the center.

Helpful tips:

Here are helpful tips for card stamping and sketching.  To begin, stamp the frog onto watercolor paper using waterproof ink.  Also, stamp and trim the sentiments.  Next, sketch lightly around the frog to create curtain creases and a stage floor.  Then, using watercolor pencils, lightly sketch the pencil colors then blend them out one color at a time for watercolor.  Next, trim or die-cut the dried frog scene panel to fit onto a card front.  Finally, assemble the layers to finish.

Here is another frog card version.

I made a quick video tutorial showing the process for this project.

Here are helpful tips for creating this gnome card.  To begin, stamp the gnome with waterproof ink onto the smooth side of watercolor paper.  Next, trim layers for the gnome and background panels to fit your card front.  Then, add watercolor to the gnome using watercolor pencils and a brush.  Once dry, layer it all onto the card base, to finish.

Pop up flowers slimline card + watercolor pencils tutorial

Hello.  We are celebrating a Brown Thursday event with Unity Stamp Company.  It is not just for Thursday though.  It is a kick-off seasonal party that got its name long ago instead of using black Friday.

Here is a fun and whimsical slim or tall style card for almost any occasion or just because.   For the color, I used watercolor pencils and pop up flower layers.

Sentiment:  Make today amazing.

For watercolor, I used watercolor pencils, water and a brush to create a spotlight look to just a few flowers.  Extra flowers were popped up and layered for added texture.

Here are tips for making this card.  First, stamp the large floral pattern twice onto the smooth side of watercolor paper.  Next, trim or die-cut background layers and a card base.  Next, add watercolor accents to the tall panel.  Then add watercolor to two extra flowers from the other stamped panel.  Also, add paint platters for added accents, optional.  Once dry, fussy cut (cut out) the top portion around the two large flowers.  Then, fussy cut the two extra flowers for layering.  Next, layer the panels, sentiment and the tall flower panel.  Also, offset the layering of the two extra flowers, using foam tape for adhesive.  Finally, add the sentiment, to finish.

I made a quick video tutorial showing the process for this project.

Sweet bunny love card with masking, watercolor & stenciling.

Hi there.  Today, I am sharing a darling bunny card with a love theme for any occasion.  There can never be too much love to go around.

Sentiment:  XOXO

Here are helpful tips for creating this card.  To begin, pre-trim or die-cut paper layers, then stamp the bunny onto the top watercolor paper panel.  Next, punch or die-cut a circle from masking paper, like masking magic.  Then, adhere that masked piece over the bunny or your own stamping.  Next, add stencil ink blending around the whole top panel from dark to light.  Then, remove the masking.  Now, color in the bunny with watercolor or your coloring of choice.  Finally, assemble the card layers and accents, to finish.

I made a quick video tutorial showing the process for this project.

Masculine watercolor card and tutorial ~ Inktense pencils.

Hello.  Here is a masculine card with stamping and watercolor accents.  I used Inktense pencils on this for watercolor.

Sentiment:  You do a great job of being a great guy.

To make this card, pre-cut or trim all of the card layers.  Then stamp onto watercolor paper with waterproof ink.  Next, add light sketches from watercolor pencils along the outlines.  Then with a stiff wet paint brush, gently pull out the color from the outside inward, for each color section.  Dry between sections if you don't want them to run together.  Also, add more color as needed.  Finally, layer all of the pieces, to finish.

I made a quick video tutorial showing the process for this project.
