Watercolor holiday card scene ~ Santa's list

For today on the Unity Stamp Company blog, I share this darling little Pooh Bear watercolor holiday card scene.  This one features Santa's list with the fun check mark "I tried".

For watercolor, I decided to try watercolor brush pens by Altenew for the first time.  This project turned out much more rich in color than I intended.  More practice with the pens is in order for me.

Helpful tips:
To get this look, begin by stamping the main panel and also a sentiment tag onto watercolor paper using waterproof ink.  Then, trim or die-cut the top panel along with a patterned paper frame background layer.  Also, make a tag from the sentiment stamping.  Next, using watercolor brush pens, test the color onto a swatch and use a palette tray to lighten or mix shades.  Also, use a separate watercolor brush and paper towel to blend out the pen colors.  To start, lightly dab small areas at a time and then blend the color out using a separate damp brush.  Add and repeat as necessary to get the hues and intensity needed.  I colored the Pooh Bear first and ended with the background floor and sky shades.  Note, heat set between colors if you don't want the colors to run, and also use very little added water.  Finally, layer it all onto a kraft color card base, to finish.

Here is a look at the card a bit closer.

And, one more close-up.
