Direct To Stamp Technique ~ Watercolor & Ink 2 Cards

For Technique Time on the Unity Stamp Company blog, I show a direct to stamp technique with watercolor and ink blending.  The two coordinating cards were made using one watercolor floral panel and the sentiment was stamped two different ways.

Sentiment:  Hello my friend

This is a great way to use a watercolor panel for two coordinating cards.  One card was framed with a stamped sentiment and the other card incorporates the inner part of the watercolor panel.

Helpful tips:
Here are helpful tips for creating this using direct to stamp technique with watercolor and ink blending.  To begin, arrange the floral and sentiment stamps around an oversized stamped panel.  I used a stamp positioning tool, but a stamp block will work as well.  Next, add damp watercolor direct to stamp onto the florals and the sentiment, using a paint brush.  Then, stamp onto watercolor paper using the watercolor painted rubber stamps.  Optional, add outlines around the sentiment with color pens if you want a more defined edge to the sentiment.  Also, die-cut or trim the watercolor hello panel, leaving an outer frame for the other card.  Next, make another sentiment panel from regular cardstock using an ink pad.  I used distress ink pads in two colors to make a similar look with ink instead of watercolor.  Then, trim or die-cut that panel to fit inside the trimmed watercolor frame.  Finally, assemble two coordinating cards, one with the frame and one with the inner panel.

Here is another version of the hello card using the direct to stamp technique, with watercolor.  This one uses the inside watercolor floral and hello panel.  The hello was outlined with color pens after the watercolor dried.  Outlining with a pen is not necessary.  I just wanted the letters to be more defined for this card.

Here is a look at the two coordinating cards together.

I made a quick video tutorial showing the process for this project.
