Masculine card with Inktense watercolor pencils.

For today's Watercolor Wednesday, we are working with Inktense watercolor pencils along with masculine card stamping.

Sentiment:
Any man can be a father, but it takes someone special to be a Dad.

For this masculine Father themed card, I began by stamping in different colors using the Misti and watercolor paper.  Color was added using watercolor pencils.  Then, I fussy cut and layered everything to finish the card.

The full article and tutorial are up on the Unity blog.
I also made a quick video tutorial showing the process for this project.

Masculine Card with Inktense Watercolor Pencils
By Gaylynn Martling for Unity’s Watercolor Wednesday
(See also the video tutorial for this project.)

Begin by stamping with waterproof ink onto watercolor paper.  I used Ranger archival ink and the Misti.
For watercolor, lightly sketch near the outlines with Inktense watercolor pencils onto dry paper.
Using a wet watercolor brush, pull out the color from the sketches.  Repeat with all color sections.
Add more watercolor layers if you want.  Heat set between different colors, especially for detailed areas.
Another way to get watercolor from the pencil is brush to pencil tip.  Dab a wet brush over the tip to make a color palette.
I like this method to get a lighter shade or mixing different colors together.
Once dry cut out the car, the sentiment and the frame.  Assemble all of the layers to finish.

For this sweet card, I made my own card base by attaching two die-cut pieces of mint green cardstock.  Then, I added the stamped panel with the Copic coloring.  This is an easy way to make a card with a shape like a square, circle, oval, star, etc.

I made a quick video tutorial showing the process for this project.

Two Cards With One Watercolor Background.

For today's Watercolor Wednesday, I show a way to make two cards out of one watercolor background.

Sentiments:
Hello.  Thinking of You
Happy Birthday from all of us.

This is a quick way to get two for one cards with pretty watercolor detail.
To make these cards, I first added watercolor layers to one 5x7 sheet of watercolor paper.  Then white heat embossing was applied over the dried watercolor layer.  To make two cards, I die-cut a frame and an oval center.  The negative was used for the second card.  Adding the sentiments and the flower vase accented the cards further.

The full article and tutorial are up on the Unity blog.
I also made a quick video tutorial showing the process for this project.

Two Cards With One Watercolor Background
By Gaylynn Martling for Unity’s Watercolor Wednesday
(See also the video tutorial for this project.)

Begin by adding water and then watercolor onto watercolor paper.  I alternated 2 premixed colors.
I mixed colors to get deep blue and coral shades.  Then, I added color over the water sections on the paper.
Add water to new areas before adding the second color.  Allow them to blend a little.  Blot puddles.
Repeat if you want to.  To soften the look, blot the whole panel with a sheet of paper towel.  Allow to dry or heat set.
I added another layer of water and the two colors to repeat the process.
Stamp using VersaMark or watermark ink over the watercolor panel.  Add white embossing powder.  Heat set.
For watercolor, I used Sakura Koi along with a watercolor brush.  I die-cut an oval center and also an outside frame.
Option:  Trimming, cut files or punches can also be used to create a frame.  Using the negative makes two watercolor cards.
Assemble the layers to finish.

Favor Tag ~ Day 4 MCT 8th Birthday (91st Edition) Sneak Peeks

Hello again.  The MCT team is sharing Day 4 sneak peeks of the 91st Edition release.

For this favor tag, I created the birthday sentiment using distress oxide inks along with makeup brushes for blending onto a piece of cardstock.  I also splattered a little water over the piece to create a look of watercolor.  Then, onto that blended paper, I die-cut the sentiment.  I also added a little distress oxide ink onto the die-cut bag front but left the rest white.
To finish, I added tape and twine to close the wrap and then added the die-cut happy birthday sentiment.

This little bag cuts out in just one piece which folds in to create a little favor box container.  This finished bag measures approximately 2" x 2.5" x 1".  For this example, I did add box adhesive.  Score tape or extra tacky tape is recommended.  It makes quick and easy treat or gift wraps for any occasion.

Nuvo masking fluid with stamping and watercolor.

For Watercolor Wednesday, I share an inspirational card with a way to use masking fluid with stamping and watercolor.

Sentiment:
The next time you think of beautiful things, don't forget to include yourself.

For this card, I wanted a mixed media style, yet leaving the floral area uncolored.  Using a liquid style mask, like Nuvo masking fluid, you can easily temporarily cover the portion you want to preserve.  Adding masking fluid with watercolor and stamping using this masking technique creates a unique look for card making and paper crafts.

The full article and tutorial are up on the Unity blog.
I also made a quick video tutorial showing the process for this project.

Nuvo Masking Fluid with Stamping and Watercolor
By Gaylynn Martling for Unity’s Watercolor Wednesday
(See also the video tutorial for this project.)

Begin by stamping onto watercolor paper with waterproof ink.  I used the Misti stamping tool to stamp 2 or 3 times in black.
Once dry, I added a light layer of Nuvo masking fluid using an inexpensive paint brush.
(The masking fluid dries on the brush making the brush unusable after use.)  So use an old one or try a Q-Tip.
Dry completely before adding watercolor.  The masking fluid leaves an ivory color and a rubbery texture.
Once dry, add layers of watercolor around and over the stamping.  I blotted puddles for a softer look.
Allow the watercolor to move.  Then splatter additional accents.  Heat set completely before removing the mask.
Rub the masking away.  It will look similar to eraser debris, leaving the area relatively ink free.
Keep your hands are ink free.  I accidentally left marks from my fingers in the stamped area.  It works for this style, so I left them in.
Assemble and embellish to finish.

Here is another look:

Supplies:  Unity Stamp Co. Include Yourself In Beauty; Nuvo masking fluid, Ranger watercolor paper, multi medium matte glue and archival ink; Mini Misti, Altenew watercolor half pans, inexpensive paint brush, watercolor brush, heat tool, My Creative Time dies, Pretty Pink Posh sequins and foam tape.

Mini Bag ~ Day 3 MCT 91st Edition Sneak Peeks

Hello again.  The MCT team is sharing Day 3 sneak peeks of the 91st Edition release.

For this mini favor bag, I used distress oxide inks along with makeup brushes for blending.  I also splattered a little water over the pieces to create a look of watercolor.
To finish, I added twine to close the wrap and added a thank you sentiment.

This little bag cuts out in just one piece which folds in to create a little favor box container.  This finished bag measures approximately 2" x 2.5" x 1".  For this example, I did not add box adhesive, except for the sentiment.  But if you want to adhere the sides, that works as well.  It makes quick and easy treat or gift wraps for any occasion.
